Junior Year Move In

Hello everyone! I know it has been a long time since I last update photos here. But, I have new photos for a new school year. My parents left Philadelphia early this morning. We were all here since Wednesday moving in and enjoying Philadelphia. My friends and I were given the royal treatment by my parents - fancy restaurants, movies, errands, the works!

This year, instead of living on campus, I am living off-campus in an apartment building. Unlike a lot of schools, "off-campus" does not actually mean I am living too far from campus. My campus is an Urban campus, so we are fully integrated with the city and community around us. For me, off campus is one block west of my on campus dorm last year. We're in a great location, three doors down from a cafe and bakery, across the street from the movie theatre and a hoagie shop, around the corner from the gorcery store and a quick walk to all my school buildings.

I am living with one of my freshman year roommates. Stephen and I are enjoying our new place. We are the first unit on the first floor of a four story apartment building. Over the summer our landlord renovated our bathroom and kitchen. So, everything in the bathroom is brand new, everything in the kitchen is brand new and upgraded! We went from old, linoleum flooring, to new ceramic tiles! We couldn't have lucked out more.

Below are some pictures from the room and some pictures of friends and family from the move in week/weekend.

Enjoy!

This is the view when you open the front door. Immediately in front is our common area. In the back is our kitchen table which fits nicely into the bay window.

A closer look at our family room. I forgot to put my sandals away! I'm sorry, Mom!

Here's the kitchen table area behind the common area.

Here's the brand new kitchen.

Here's the hall way. First door on the right is the bathroom. Second door on the right is Stephen's room. And the open door at the end of the hallway is my room.

Here's the bathroom. That's a deceiving shuttered window - it's actually a power box cover!

This is the view of my room as soon as you walk in.

My bed and desk.

This is my desk and my newly "themed-square pictures" wall.

And finally, this is my cloaset and mirror wall.

So, that's the apartment, minus Stephen's room. He was asleep when I was taking my pictures and finishing up my room. I'll have to post his room in the next few days.

My landlord is also coming to replace all my window shades and blinds and replace the windows (hopefully! or at least give them a good cleaning).

Overall, I am extremely pleased with our apartment. We got really, really lucky and have a great place. A lot of my friends tell me about how great their place is and then they walk into our apartment and say, "man, my place sucks! this is like a real house!" So, I'm living the high life this year!

These are some pictures of my family and friends from the weekend.

This was after a very delicious dinner at Distrito. A brand new Mexican Tapas place just around the corner from my apartment. The food was awesome, the decor was fun and the company was grand!

At Distrito with Stephen and Alyssa (and my parents, not pictured)

Just Stephen and Alyssa.

This is in Danny and Benjy's Apartment. They were two of my roommates last year. Picture, two of Benjy's friends from home. Henry is teaching at City Year, a program where college students teach in inner-city schools for a year near the end of their time at college. Lydia goes to Vassar and came down for the weekend. In the back, Alyssa enjoys the fan. Humid Philly at the end of summer can be brutal for a crowded room.

Jacob manned up this summer and grew a beard! And long hair! That's one of our friends, Maxine.

Henry (on guitar), Danny (in red, roommate from last year) and Benjy's Foot.

Maxine, Lydia and Benjy.

And finally, I was playing with some functions on my new camera. This is a picture of Benjy that only allows green to come through on the final shot. All the other colors come through as black and white.
